Chamber reports events at its April 14 meeting

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Board met at 8 a.m. on April 14 in the California City Hall Meeting Room. Amanda Trimble, president of the Chamber, called the meeting to order.

Those present were: Brad Baer, Melissa Bonecutter, Cale Brown, Jenny Brown, Norris Gerhart, Rita Hammerly, Blake Howard, Becky Lawson, Pamela Pearon, Robin Ratcliff, Dwight Sanders, Tom Winters, and Sandra Ratcliff.

The minutes of the March meeting were reviewed. Brad Baer moved to accept the minutes. Robin Ratcliff seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The treasurer’s report was presented by Jenny Brown, treasurer. Dwight Sanders moved to accept the treasurer’s report. Melissa Bonecutter seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Sandra Ratcliff gave the secretary’s report. Nine “Welcome to California” letters were sent and five “Welcome Baskets” were distributed to newcomers. Seven documents were notarized in March. Roedel Cleaning Services and Supplies was welcomed as a new Chamber member. The business directory on the Chamber website and the calendar of events is updated. If a business or organization would like to add events to the calendar, they will need to contact the Chamber office at 573-796-3040.

Old business included a two-year permit being renewed for the “Welcome to California” sign on Look Out Trail near the Helipad. Honorary memberships were presented to Bond Pharmacy (Business of the Year), Lisa Parry (Volunteer of the Year), and Judy Scott (Citizen of the Year). New members with established businesses were sent a certificate. Those include: Kusgen Construction, Midwest Factory Outlet, Sam’s Club of Jefferson City, Wrights Printing and Promotional Advertising (Versailles), and Roedel Cleaning Services and Supplies (Jefferson City).

New business included a ribbon cutting being scheduled at 9 a.m. for May 7 at Clenin Farm Supply located at 109 W. Buchanan.

The Chamber agreed to assist the Moniteau County Fair Board with the upcoming 150th Anniversary of the Moniteau County Fair. The event will be promoted through updates given to Chamber members in “This Week in Your Chamber.”

Blake Howard was welcomed as the new representative for Cargill, replacing Jason Witt on the board.

The Scholarship Committee reported that they have selected six recipients for the Chamber Scholarships. They will be announced at the CHS Awards Night on May 9 by Trimble.

Cale Brown recapped the Easter Egg Hunt held on March 19 at Proctor Park. A large number of children were present and more than 3000 candy-filled eggs were found. Many pictures with the Easter Bunny were taken. The new location worked out well.

The 12th Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 8 at the California Country Club. Tee off is at 11 a.m. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Dwight Sanders, chairman, is encouraging businesses to sign up a team ($150/team) and/or to sponsor a hole ($50/hole). Contact the Chamber office at 573-796-3040 for more information. An Ozark Ham & Turkey Festival update was given by Brad Baer. Plans continue to progress. A sponsor for the South stage is needed. Vendor invitations have been sent and several already have responded. The next committee meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on May 2, in the City Meeting Room.
