Smith sentenced to four years in prison

Travis R. Smith, 45, California, was sentenced to four years in prison on each of five felony counts following mixed pleas.

An Alford Plea was entered to two C Felony counts in the case for which he was on trail. That case was from 2005, involving a teenage girl in Moniteau County, for which he served as youth pastor in the church she attended. The counts were statutory rape, second degree and statutory sodomy, second degree.

A guilty plea was entered to each C Felony count of two other cases. The two counts in a case from 1999 were for statutory rape, second degree, and sexual abuse. The third case, from 1998, was for one count of statutory rape, second degree.

The five four-year terms are to be served concurrently. The pleas were accepted following about six hours of deliberation by a panel of jurors.

Smith was originally arraigned on felony sex charges filed on Sept. 28, 2012, with an additional charge filed June 10, 2013. A mistrial was declared in a previous trial in Moniteau County in December of 2015.
