California Pintos fall short after 3 overtimes

California fell to Fulton on Tuesday, 75-70, in the night cap of opening round play at the Southern Boone Classic.

A tied game of 10 at the end of the first quarter was an indicator these teams were equally matched. Going to the locker room at the half the Hornets led the Pintos 28-23. At the end of the third period still trailing but not giving up the score was 39-34. However, the fourth quarter the Pintos outscored the Hornets taking the game to overtime tied at 47 at the end of regulation.

During the first overtime both teams put up 11 points taking them to double overtime. During the second overtime each team only scored 4 ending the overtime tied again at 62. However the third and final overtime Fulton outscored California and took the win 75-70. The Pintos played very physical during the game, racking up 26 fouls.

Jaylin Freeman led the charge for California's offense, scoring 22 points, with five points during the second period. He also contributed seven rebounds and four steals.

Jacob Wolken made it into double digits, scoring 15 points going 6-for-7. Landon Mouse contributed 13 points. Josh Woodruff added 8 points, 7 rebounds and a block for California.

Wolken was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up nine rebounds, one steal and three blocks.

California finished the game with 43 rebounds (13 offensive/30 defensive), four blocks and seven steals.

The Pintos will be playing Hallsville as play continues at the Southern Boone Classic on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 4:30 p.m.
