Kiwanis meeting slated for Feb. 15

Kiwanis of California met in the basement of St. Paul's Lutheran on Monday evening, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. Guests Whitney Toosley and Kim Wilkens, California High School counselors, were in attendance. They made a request to Kiwanis for support of a student to attend Missouri Boys and Girls State this coming year. Kiwanis members voted to support two students with a total gift of $600, $300 for each. The counselors also enlightened the club members regarding the wide array of responsibilities that have in helping students make good career decisions and nurturing good citizens.

Other matters pertaining to Kiwanis were discussed. Fun fund raisers were part of the discussion. Details for the April 9 pancake meal at the Nutrition Center were brought to the group's attention. It was agreed that the Boy Scouts would receive half of the net profits for the pancake meal. Kiwanis members are glad to help and are most appreciative the Scouts join in this good venture. This year blueberry pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, normal pancakes, along with whip cream to top them off, all will be part of the menu. The time for this event will be 7 to 9:30 a.m. Prices will stay the same as the last several years with children under 5 free. Tickets in advance are $6 and those purchased at the door will be $7. All proceeds will go for children in the community.

Next meeting will be Feb. 15, at 6 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran. Valentine's songs will be part of the meeting, a delicious home cook meal, and minimalistic business conducted. Susan Burger is on the docket as our guest speaker. Kiwanis meetings take place the first and third Mondays of the month at St. Paul's Lutheran.
