"This is why you play, for moments like these," said Coach Dalton Armontrout. "These girls deserved every bit of this.

"They have worked hard the entire season and I am glad they have something to show for it."

Prairie Home outscored Pilot Grove 17-4 and 12-5 in the first two quarters. That gave them enough of a lead that, despite Pilot Grove outscoring them in the third and fourth quarters, Prairie Home managed the championship win.

Rachel Distler was the high scorer Prairie Home with 29 points. Shianne Rhorer scored 13, Ally Small 10, Makayla Zey 7 and Kristen Peterson 2.

Rhorer led the team in rebounds with 15 and in steals with six.

"We started out on fire and gained momentum," Armontrout said. "Our goal was to run them off the three-point line and make them shoot over us.

"We changed a lot of their shots in the paint. Our defense was fantastic."

Prairie Home's record improved to 23-4.

Advancing to the state championship playoffs, Prairie Home was defeated by Glasgow 45-34 on Tuesday night.
