MDC to hold youth turkey hunt clinic

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a free youth turkey hunt clinic from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 5 at the MDC Central Region Office, 3500 East Gans Road in Columbia.

The clinic, designed for first-time turkey hunters, ages 10-15 years, will teach turkey hunting basics, such as how to select the best ammunition and shotgun for turkey hunting, how to improve hunting and shooting skills, and how to call turkeys and use decoys.

"Especially for first-time hunters, turkeys can be tricky," said MDC outdoor skills specialist Brian Flowers. "These clinics provide youth an opportunity to learn how to set up properly, use a call effectively, and discover the joys of turkey hunting."

Attendees will also draw for an opportunity to participate in a free mentored turkey hunt to be held April 9-10.

All participants must be accompanied at the clinic by a parent or adult mentor, age 18 years or older.

Space in the clinic is limited, and attendees must pre-register by contacting Brian Flowers at [email protected] or 573-815-7901, ext. 3388.
