Motions were heard in judge's chambers this week
Jon Travis Shikles, 26, was bound over to Moniteau County Circuit Court on Tuesday, May 17, after waiving Preliminary Hearing on a second degree murder charge in Associate Circuit Court.
The Highway Patrol was investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found early Thursday near an alley less than three blocks from the downtown square.

On Monday, Feb. 28, officers of the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol were called to Academy Street in Clarksburg as local residents listened on scanners. Shortly after the initial calls, officers closed off access to Academy Street except for local residents. It was later reported that two people, a man and woman were found dead at a residence in the small town. A press release received from the Sheriff's Department confirmed the deaths of Charles E. Wood, 51, and Judy M. West, 61. The preliminary results of the Medical Examiner indicated both died from gunshot wounds to the head. The death of West was ruled a homicide and Wood was ruled a suicide. According to the press release of March 1, "These deaths remain under investigation, but it appears at this point to be a murder / suicide." According to other sources, the two may have been dead for a week or more.

Father arrested after five Eldon children reported missing
ELDON — Miller County Sheriff Bill Abbott canceled an Amber Alert on Friday night after five children reportedly taken from their rural Eldon home early Friday morning were found unharmed.

Gov. Jay Nixon visited the Russellville High School campus Thursday, Jan. 6 and congratulated the school for its A+ designation. The A+ program provides two years of tuition and fees at public community colleges and technical schools for students who go through the program at an A+ designated school.
