43rd Annual Bluegrass Music Awards scheduled Friday, Saturday

The 43rd annual Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Bluegrass Music Awards and the 34th Midwest Convention will be Friday and Saturday at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

The Farm Hands will be the awards show hosts, with two shows Saturday. Bruce Punches will be the master of ceremonies.

A jam session Friday will be in the hotel lobby atrium.

Friday performances begin at 2 p.m. with Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, followed by The Punches Family, Bluegrass Brigade, and The Baker Family.

The second Friday concert begins at 6:30 p.m. with Scroggins and Colorado, Collins Brothers, Lori King and Junction 63, Bull Harman and Bull's Eye, and Dick Kimmel and Company.

Saturday's shows start with the Bluegrass Brigade at 12:30 p.m. followed by Bull Harman and Bull's Eye, Collins Brothers, The Farm Hands, The Baker Family, Bluegrass Martins, Lori King and Junction 63, and Dick Kimmel and Company.

The Mid-Missouri group, The Bluegrass Martins, also have been nominated as a group and as individual members for awards.

The Martins are among the four nominees for Vocal Group of the Year, Instrumental Group of the Year, Bluegrass Band of the Year and Entertainer in the Bluegrass Music.

Anne Martin is nominated for Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year, Larita Martin for dobro, Lee Martin for mandolin, Janice Martin for banjo, Dale Martin for male vocalist and Jeana Martin-Faris for fiddle and female vocalist.

The Saturday night concert and awards will open with the Collins Brothers, plus The Punches Family, The Bluegrass Martins and Bull Harman and Bull's Eye. The Farm Hands will close.
