A 33-year-old Linn Creek man has died of gunshot wounds from confrontation last week in Camden County.

According to the Camden County Sheriff's Office, an autopsy on Joseph W. Beeman was conducted Monday, but results have not been made available.

Beeman was shot at least twice during a confrontation at with Dustin S. Burkhart's residence at approximately 3 a.m. on Aug. 10 at a residence off Business Missouri 5 near Decaturville in Camden County.

Burkhart is being held without bond in the Camden County Adult Detention Facility on a probation violation warrant. He claims Beeman showed up at the residence with a gun and demanded a woman there leave with him. The woman refused, and Burkhart retrieved his own firearm from the residence.

The sheriff's office said Burkhart told Beeman to leave at which time Beeman reportedly fired the gun at him. Burkhart returned fire, striking Beeman at least twice before calling 911 and requesting medical assistance. Neither Burkhart nor the woman were injured during the incident.

Detectives served a search warrant at Burkhart's residence on Aug. 10, recovering the firearm believed to be used in the shooting and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Beeman was airlifted to Missouri University Hospital in critical condition before he died over the weekend.

No charges stemming from this incident have been filed yet on Burkhart.
