Fire department seeking applications for volunteers

The California Fire Department is taking applications for the position of volunteer firefighter.

Applications can be picked up in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the city fire station, 800 E. Buchanan St.

Additionally, you can message the California Fire Department on Facebook, and the department can send an electronic version of the application.

Applicants will need to provide contact information and phone number when they pick up an application. In early January, the department will schedule a pre-application meeting to discuss the recruit training plan, minimum attendance requirements, and answer any questions about the process or the fire department in general. The department also will showcase some of its equipment and capabilities to interested applicants. There will be two opportunities to attend this meeting.

Applications will be required to be turned in approximately seven days after that meeting.

The California Fire Department provides fire protection, EMS support and technical rescue services to the city of California and surrounding areas and responds to roughly 500 calls per year.
