With plans to serve 250 or a maximum of 300 meals at the Dec. 18 fundraiser to benefit Travis Peck and his family in his fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS), the actual turnout exceeded all expectations. The event was held at Centennial Hall at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds.

Although Becky Lawson and Amanda Trimble were the contact people for the event, there were many more involved in its planning and operation.

In total, there were about 700 meals served, about 350 take-out, with friends and family waiting in line at times, as the pork steak dinners planned for the event ran out.

The slack was taken up by deliveries from Burgher Haus and Nic Nac to supply ham and chicken, as well as potato salad and coleslaw, to make up the unexpected influx of 300 additional diners.

Few stood outside for very long, since it was a very cold day. While inside waiting for additional food to arrive, they checked out the approximately 200 items brought in for the silent auction, including a deep freeze, coolers and a barbecue grill.
