The construction workers were on-site at the new Mid-Mo Ambulance base, pouring the concrete floor when the storm came through Thursday, July 7.

The crew of Brubaker Construction, contractor for Excel Roofing, began working at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, at the location on Hartley Street on the south edge of California on south Hwy. 87. As the storm moved through, the crew continued the task of pouring the floor. The footings had been poured and the concrete walls in the garage are in place. "We don't mind the rain while we are pouring the concrete,' said Paul Brubaker, owner of Brubaker Construction. "It's when we're finishing (smoothing) the concrete, that it makes a difference if its raining."

There were seven loads of cement brought in, for a total of 47 yards. The crew on the site worked on through the wind and rain, not knowing the power was out until near the end. The last truckload of cement was hauled from Jefferson City since the power outage prevented it being mixed in California.
