2 hurt, 1 arrested in Eugene shooting Friday

One man was being held Saturday in the Cole County Jail, pending the filing of formal charges in a Friday afternoon shooting in Eugene.

Chief Deputy John Wheeler said the sheriff's department was still investigating the case.

He declined to release names until charges were filed.

"We got a phone call from Capital Region hospital saying they had a shotgun victim," Wheeler reported. "We responded to the area of Eugene with three deputies, because we didn't know what we were going into.

"The victim at the hospital said he didn't know what had happened to his buddy."

Three deputies also were pulled from duties at the county fair and sent to help with the Eugene investigation, Wheeler said.

"Upon arrival, they found two crime scenes side-by-side, in some apartments, and another victim of a (pistol) gunshot," he said. "We started interviewing tenants (and others) in the neighborhood, and we concluded in our investigation that the gunshot victim we had in Eugene actually was our suspect."

Both men were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, then released from the hospital, Wheeler said.

He said anyone with information about the case should call the sheriff's office at 573-634-9160, or CrimeStoppers at 573-659-TIPS (8477).
