The last day of Summer School at California R-I ended June 17. There were 280 in attendance in the elementary classes, 47 in middle school and 390 in the high school level summer school classes.

According to Elementary School Principal Daniel Williams, summer school is different than regular school. For several reasons, including the limited resources and staff, summer school is treated as a privilege.

"The summer program is a tremendous benefit to students," Williams said. "The kids don't forget what they've learned over the summer."

The school arranged with the City Parks and Recreation Department to have swimming for the elementary students. Many of the summer school students were escorted from the school across the road to the swimming pool. They also coordinated with the middle school to have a basketball camp.
