The California Progress, Inc. (CPI) Empty Spaces/Dream Places event to showcase business and residential locations, most of which are available for rent, lease or sale, took place Sunday, Nov. 6 in the "Old Town" area of California. Each location on the tour was marked with an "open house" sign and balloons.
Three of the locations which were available for inspection are on Oak Street and six more are on High Street.
Two of the Oak Street locations are 1890's era buildings - the old Newton Studio location, at 300 S. Oak, and the old Cartwright House, which will soon be a Bed and Breakfast/Tea Room, at 102 S. Oak. The third is in the old business block on the east side of S. Oak. The lower floors are business locations. The upper floors are renovated lofts and are occupied.
The High Street locations include possible business locations as well apartments. Several of the occupied business locations were available to those interested in seeing renovated premises, dating from 1892 to 1902.
On the day of the event, maps were available at the old Newton Studio building and refreshments were available at the Dorene's Victorian Bed & Breakfast and Tea Room.
