Parking discussed for ambulance base

The ongoing project of the new California Mid-Mo Ambulance base was discussed by the Board of Directors at the regular monthly session on Nov. 9, at the district office in Tipton.
Administrator Lee Kempf informed the board that the trim is up, the doors have been hung and the floors have been finished, except they need to cure. The natural gas and sewer lines still need to be installed. A problem with the brick around the electric lines is being fixed.
The employee parking was also discussed. The original plan was to have a gravel area for employee parking. Kempf told the board he thought this was a mistake. After he informed the board that an additional $6,500 would take care of a concrete parking area tied in with the apron in front of the garage, and included with the heated pad, a motion was made and the board approved the additional work. It will be paid for outright by the district.
Mike Keith of Mike Keith's Insurance, of Clinton, presented the board with insurance renewal rates for the district's property, casualty and liability insurance for the coming year. He compared rates of two carriers, including both the current (MoPerm) and the previous insurance carrier (Continental Western ). Although cost was not that much different between the two, Keith advised accepting the slightly higher Continental Western due to the liability limits ($5 million as compared to $2 million) and some guaranteed replacement costs as opposed to depreciated replacement costs on some property. The Tipton helipad and the new base in California were both figured in to the premium price of Continental Western. After the presentation, the board approved insurance with the Continental Western at a rate of $33,388. The board also approved renewing the the district's cyber policy for $3,925.
In other business, the October treasurer's report balance on hand was $596,633.80. Run statistics for October were: Tipton - 61 calls with 43 transports; California - 71 calls, 46 transports; Versailles - 164 calls, 103 transports; and Barnett - 17 calls, 10 transports. District wide, there were 313 calls with 202 transports for a transport rate on patient contact calls of 74 percent.
The next regular meeting is set for Dec. 14 at the Tipton district office.
