Man sought for shooting at County Park

The Cole County Sheriff's Department is searching for a man accused of shooting a woman Monday afternoon at County Park.

The department has issued a warrant for Jerry Dean Gill, 29, accusing him of two counts of second-degree domestic assault and one count each of armed criminal action and false imprisonment.

The suspect was last seen driving a white, 2006 Chrysler 300, with the license plate of WK2H8A. 

He allegedly shot the victim in the park at around 3:45 p.m. Monday. Two bystanders saw the injured woman and took her to Thomas Jefferson Middle School on Fairgrounds Road, near the park, where authorities were notified and she then was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, the department reported.

The victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Jefferson City Area Crimestoppers has issued a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of Gill. Authorities consider him armed and dangerous.

A woman was shot after an incident Monday afternoon at County Park in Cole County.

According to officials with the Cole County Sheriff's Department, the shooting occurred around 4 p.m.

"We are still working to determine what caused this incident," Capt. John Wheeler said. "What we do know is a man shot the woman here at the park. A passerby saw the woman and then took her over to Thomas Jefferson Middle School on Fairgrounds Road, near the park, where authorities were notified."

Wheeler said the woman was taken from the school parking lot by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. 

As of Monday night here condition was listed by authorities as stable.

Wheeler believes the woman was shot once in the arm.

Wheeler also said the Jefferson City Police Department and Missouri Highway Patrol were working with the sheriff's department in trying to locate the shooter, who took off in an unknown direction.

The name of the man and woman were not being released as of Monday night.
