Prairie Home math teacher Roberta Pate received a $500 grant from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation. Pate applied for the grant earlier in the year and intends to use the money for new graphing calculators. Leonard Butler of MRTF and Carolyn Hays, Missouri Retired Teachers Association Region five vice president, recently traveled to Prairie Home to present the grant check to Pate in her classroom.
The Prairie Home Art Department is in search of barn pictures. The art classes will be doing a study of architecture and would like to have pictures of barns, past and present, from around Prairie Home to use as part of the unit. Pictures cannot be returned, so send a copy of a picture to school or email a digital copy to Michelle Mozingo, art teacher at [email protected].
Prairie Home social studies teacher Dean Barker is soliciting photos of local residents for the annual Veterans Day presentation. Photos may be submitted to the Karma Haller, school secretary, in the school office or scanned and emailed to Mr. Barker at HYPERLINK "mailto:[email protected]"[email protected]. Please include the name of the veteran pictured and his/her relation to students or community members. If you send a picture to be scanned, be sure to include how you want the photo returned to you.
Christine Rusco, Prairie Home kindergarten teacher, has a project on Donors Choose, the website dedicated to helping teachers fundraise for projects in their classrooms. The project, "Help My Students Get Technology" is to be able to purchase iPads for the kindergarten classroom. According to Rusco, "My students need technology to help them learn with learning applications, listen to reading, and keep them engaged. The project includes iPads and iPad cases for my students." The Junior High and High School Band Clinic is on Oct. 25 at Bunceton. The clinician for the Junior High band is Sandy Greene, band director at Smithton. Selections for the Junior High Band include: All the Pretty Little Horses, Mobbusters!, A Prehistoric Suite, two Chinese folk songs, and Big Circus March.
The high school clinician is Dr. Jennings, assistant director of bands at the University of Central Missouri. Selections for the high school band include: Chorale Prelude: For the Beauty of the Earth, Baby Elephant Walk, Utah Beach, Portrait of a Clown, and Crazy Train. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. with admission being $2 per adult and $1 per student.
The Prairie Home Lions Club is having its Annual All You Can Eat Smoked Turkey and Fried Chicken Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prairie Home School. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $5, children aged 5 and under eat free.
