California Kiwanis Club hosts district barbecue

The California Kiwanis Club played host to barbecue for the Missouri-Arkansas District, District 11, Kiwanis Club members, Sunday, Sept. 11.
About 45 Kiwanis members and their families came out in the good weather to attend the event held at the Proctor Park's east shelter house.
District 11 Gov. Don Leupold, of Gravois, and Lt. Gov. Melva Deane Lipsey, of Jefferson City, were at the event.
A short District Council meeting was held for the purpose of tentative planning for the coming year.
The Kiwanis International organization was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, and became an international organization with the creation of the Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario, the following year.
California Kiwanis meets the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. for a dinner meeting. The meeting is at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with a meal prepared by the St. Paul's Evening Guild.
California's Kiwanis Club has been operating for decades. Each Kiwanis Club is different, as each community the clubs serve is different. The idea is that, by working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. Kiwanis welcomes new members to help with the projects. Current California Kiwanis President is Dr. Peter Kurowski.
