Enough members of Lincoln University's faculty have expressed an interest in forming a collective bargaining unit with the Missouri NEA that the education group has asked LU's administration to recognize it as the faculty's collective bargaining representative.

In a Monday news release, the NEA (National Education Association) said it wants to "begin negotiations with (LU administration) for a collective bargaining agreement to define the terms and conditions of employment for all full-time faculty."

Lincoln President Kevin Rome didn't comment on the release or the NEA request.

"We are excited about completing a successful pledge drive," Abdoulaye Bah, the LU faculty's media spokesman, said in the release.

"We are confident that representation in collective bargaining with the Missouri NEA will result in better working conditions for faculty members and learning conditions for students at Lincoln University."

The NEA release noted it has about 35,000-members, and that it "represents teachers, education support professionals, college faculty, retired teachers and students studying to be teachers in school districts and on college campuses throughout the state."

The NEA has 3.2 million members.
