California mayor and aldermen sworn in

The April 4 election results were verified Monday, April 17, at a special meeting of the City of California Board of Aldermen, following which the aldermen and the mayor were sworn in.

Carol Rackers, retiring Ward III Alderwoman, was presented a certificate of Recognition of Service by California Mayor Norris Gerhart on Monday, April 17, 2017. Rackers was recognized for 16 years of service to the city. She served as California mayor from April 1990 to April 1995. Her service as a member of the Board of Alderman was from April 1989 to April 1990, April 2004 to April 2008, and April 2011 to April 2017.

Taking the oath of office were: incumbent Ward I Alderman Ron Baker; incumbent Ward II Alderman Darryl Elliott; incumbent Mayor Norris Gerhart; and newly-elected Ward III Alderman Lanny Ash. 

While all three of the aldermen were unopposed in the election, Gerhart was re-elected by a vote of 366 to 135 over challenger Charlie Roll.

Also on Monday, Carol Rackers, retiring Ward III Alderwoman, was presented a certificate of Recognition of Service by the mayor. She was recognized for 16 years of service to the city during a presentation made following her last action as a member of the board.
