Flood Warning issued for Mid-Missouri

The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a Flood Warning until 9:30 a.m. Sunday for much of Central Missouri.

The area for the warning includes:

  • Cole County
  • Boone County
  • Audrain County
  • Callaway County
  • Osage County
  • Moniteau County 

At 936 p.m., numerous roads across the warned area remained closed due to flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include: Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton, Mexico, California, Centralia, Ashland, Tipton, Holts Summit, Linn, Columbia Regional Airport, Belle, Wardsville, Hallsville, St. Martins, Auxvasse, Taos, Sturgeon, Russellville and New Bloomfield.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are possible in the warned area which could prolong the flooding.

This includes Interstate 70 in Missouri between exits 115 and 161. This also includes Rock Bridge State Park, Finger Lakes State Park, Clarks Hill/Norton Historic Site, Jewell Cemetery Historic Site, and Jefferson Landing Historic Site.

Take precautionary/preventative measures: Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

In addition, the NWS has issued a Flood Warning until 11:15 p.m. Saturday for the following Mid-Missouri counties: 

  • Maries County
  • Miller County
  • Camden County
  • Morgan County

Creeks, streams, and low water crossings will be especially susceptible to the dangers of flooding.

Locations in this warning include: Lake of The Ozarks State Park... Ha Ha Tonka State Park... Eldon... Osage Beach... Camdenton... Village of Four Seasons... Lake Ozark... Belle... Laurie... Iberia... Vienna. 

Even after the flood warnings expire, a flash flood watch will continue in effect, with heavy rains and flooding remain possible in Mid-Missouri through Sunday evening.
