Honor Flight takes 110 vets on trip #48

The journey of healing and closure begins for 110 area veterans when Central Missouri Honor Flight #48 launches in the early morning hours Aug. 14.

A blended passenger list of veterans who proudly served this country in three conflicts will be treated to a trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials dedicated to their military service.

Honor Flight #48 features heroes from WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam War-flying at no cost thanks to the generosity of those who donate to the all-volunteer organization.

These deserving heroes will enjoy a one-day tour of the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Marine Corps Memorial, Air Force Memorial, Women in Military Service Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

At the Tomb of the Unknowns, Honor Flight veterans are quietly and respectfully acknowledged during the Changing of the Guard.

More than 500 veterans remain on the waiting list for upcoming honor flights.

Central Missouri Honor Flight safely has flown more than 3,200 veterans to the nation's capital, since the organization was founded in 2009. Since then, more than $3 million in donations have been raised to make these flights happen.

It costs $300 to sponsor a veteran on the Honor Flight.
