Baker named new Senate administrator

Patrick Baker will be the Missouri Senate's new administrator, beginning Sept. 1.

He succeeds former Administrator Marga Hoelscher, who retired in June, according to a news release.

The Senate's administrator serves as the chief executive officer, overseeing all Senate operations, Senate staff and coordinating directors.

Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin, said in the news release announcing Baker's hiring: "We were fortunate to have a lot of qualified candidates apply for the position, and the decision wasn't easy. But we strongly believe Patrick is very capable and will help ensure the Senate runs smoothly."

Senate Majority Leader Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City, added: "Patrick has worked in some capacity with legislators for more than 12 years, and his knowledge of Senate procedures and administrative policies makes him a great asset to add to our team."

Baker currently serves as the Missouri state disaster recovery coordinator.

He also has served as the lieutenant governor's chief of staff and as a policy director for the Republicans' Senate Majority Caucus.

He was hired by the Senate's leadership team.

Minority Leader Gina Walsh, D-Bellefontaine Neighbors, said: "The Senate is a group of diverse leaders with unique backgrounds, all dedicated to moving Missouri forward. Patrick's professionalism, personality and experience in the Senate will help him to work with members of both parties as we serve the citizens, families and communities of our state."
