Eldon teen arrested for promotion of porn

Following an investigation for promoting and possession of child pornography, an Eldon teenager was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

The investigation was conducted by the division's Digital Forensics Investigative Unit, assisted by the Miller County Sheriff's Office.

Seth M. James, 17, of Eldon, was arrested Aug. 16, for promoting and possession of child pornography. The arrest followed execution of a search warrant at the teen's Eldon residence. The search located child pornography, as well as computer equipment used in the crime.

The next day, Aug. 17, the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's Office formally charged James with promoting child pornography in the first degree and three counts of possession of child pornography. Bond was set at $200,000.

The patrol encourages Internet users to promptly report to the patrol or local law enforcement anyone who attempts to engage in unwanted, inappropriate, or sexualized communications with children.

The Digital Forensics Investigative Unit is partially funded by the Missouri Department of Public Safety State Cyber Crime Grant and the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
