Christmas California Style on Dec. 2 started the day with open houses and ended with a parade and a visit with Santa.
The California Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted the event for decades. Several chamber businesses held open houses with drawings, discounts, refreshments and other activities.
Dozens of floats reflected ideas on the parade theme, "A Christmas Dream." New this year, Co-Mo Connect provided glowsticks, which were handed out by "Elf" Cale Brown, chamber president, along the parade route.
Parade winners were: first place, Faith Crossing Church; second place, Valley Park West Retirement Center; and third place, Ann Perry, Attorney at Law. Among the city department entries, first place went to the electric department, second place to the police department, and third place to the street department.
After the parade, Mayor Norris Gerhart lit the huge tree outside the Moniteau County Courthouse, and Judge Aaron Martin's office served cocoa and cider.
Inside, Mr. and Mrs. Claus visited with the children and each was given a bag of treats and the California High School Sounds of Joy entertained with Christmas music.
Judging for the chamber's Home and Business Christmas Decorating and Lighting Contest will continue 7-10 p.m. through Dec. 8.
