The benefit held on behalf of Elsie and Billy Meyer, both cancer patients, was successful.
The event, held at Nic Nac Cafe Nov. 19, included a live auction and choice of a meal of homemade chili or beef stew and a drink for $5.
More than 300 people attended the event, either for the meal, the auction, or both. Serving as auctioneers were Bill Embry, Kent Embry, Jim Pettigrew and Chad Murphy.
All proceeds from the auction and the food went directly to the Meyer family and other donations were welcomed.
Elsie has been diagnosed with liver cancer and is traveling to St. Louis weekly for chemotherapy.
Billy recently was diagnosed with prostate cancer and has been undergoing radiation treatment.
Jackie Heather, Nic Nac owner, commented that the Meyers were overwhelmed with the generosity of the people and the community. They are said to be doing well for what they are going through.
