A pit stop for a Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets paid off in a big way for Edward Whittle, of Jefferson City.

While on his way home from hunting the morning of Dec. 10, Whittle stopped by Break Time on Missouri Boulevard to purchase $11 in Scratchers tickets.

While playing his tickets at home, a specific pattern on his "Bingo Plus" ticket added some excitement to Whittle's morning.

"I thought I was going crazy because I had the four corners," Whittle said, regarding the fifth play area on the ticket.

"I texted my mom saying I won $3,000, then I scratched the rest and had an 'X.' I texted her again saying it was actually $55,558, and she made me come over with the ticket," Whittle laughed.

He matched his bingo numbers and the "Caller's Card" numbers in the game to make an "X" pattern on the ticket's fifth play area, resulting in a $55,558 prize.

Whittle plans to purchase a newer truck and a new crossbow.
