'Wayfinding' signs to be installed

Plans are to soon install the "wayfinding" signs which were part of the Dream Community Initiative, which was developed for California a few years ago.

The project was taken on by California Progress Inc. (CPI). The organization agreed to develop the plan including sign design, and raising funds to purchase the poles and sign if the city of California would agree to install them.

The project is to have "wayfinding" signage to direct traffic to places like the Finke Theatre, schools, parks, City Hall, courthouse, fairgrounds and more. The signs should be installed beginning late winter or early spring.

The progress of the project was slowed since some were to be installed near the state-owned highways. The signs and pole styles had to meet the approval of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

CPI Executive Director Susan Burger announced that the project was nearing an end. Those contributing to the project were: The Burger Foundation, California Chamber of Commerce, CPI members, Moniteau County R-1 School, Finke Theatre, Moniteau County Fair Board and Moniteau County Historical Society. The project was directed by CPI's Design Committee, Chair Connie Walker, members: Gail Hughes, James Albin, Heather Allen, Ann Grotjon, Patty Kay and Robin Staton. Eleanor Tiefenbrun was graphic artist for the project, spending many hours developing and refining the design for the signs.
