Moniteau County residents will have at least three choices when it comes to how they would like to celebrate the Fourth of July on Tuesday.

Masons to host July 4 parade

California Masonic Lodge 183 will be sponsoring the annual July 4th parade in California.

There is no entry fee, and they invite organizations, churches, schools, businesses, etc., to show their patriotism by entering a float or just being in the parade. The theme for this year's parade is "Proud of America."

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., after lining up at 9 a.m. on Smith Street in the Cargill area. The parade will proceed west on Smith Street and turn north (right) on Oak Street. The parade will then continue north on Oak Street to South Street, where it will turn east (right) then continue into the Moniteau County Fairgrounds where it will end.

City of California fireworks show

The city of California will again this year sponsor an Independence Day fireworks show in the evening.

The fireworks will begin at Proctor Park at dusk, approximately 9 p.m. The Independence Day fireworks display, expected to be about 20 minutes in duration, will be handled by a professional pyrotechnics team.

If the event is a rainout, the fireworks show will be held July 5.

Ice cream social on tap in Tipton

The Friends of the Maclay Home will hold its 35th annual Ice Cream Social on July 4 on the lawn at 209 W. Howard Street in Tipton.

The home is located at Howard and B Highway, six blocks north of the Highways 5 and 50 intersection.

The Carriage House kitchen will serve ice cream, homemade cakes, hamburgers and hot dogs from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. A country store with baked goods and fresh produce will be on the grounds. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Melody Makers and Don Willis.

Tours of the historic Maclay Home will be offered from noon-2 p.m.; veterans may tour the home for free on Tuesday.

Built as Rose Hill girls' seminary in 1858, the Maclay Home was Union headquarters throughout the Civil War and is said to have hosted Gen. John Fremont. All 17 rooms contain the original furnishings from the Gleim and Maclay families.
