A Williamsburg man was arrested Wednesday following a domestic disturbance involving a firearm, according to Lt. Curtis Hall of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

The Callaway County prosecuting attorney charged Richard Tipton, 51, with a long list of offenses on Thursday.

Deputies were called 7 p.m. Wednesday to the 5000 block of O'Keefe Ridge Road near Williamsburg. Hall said upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect fled in a vehicle.

Those interviewed told deputies Tipton physically assaulted and choked the driver of the vehicle, then pulled out a rifle. Deputies were told he pointed the gun at the victim and threatened to kill them if they called the police.

At 8:30 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle in which Tipton was a passenger and took him into custody and brought him to the Callaway County Jail.

Tipton was charged with the felony offenses of first-degree domestic assault, second-degree domestic assault, armed-criminal action, tampering with a victim and unlawful possession of a firearm (felony in possession of a firearm). Hall said Tipton's bail was set at $60,000.

More charges could be added as the investigation continues, he said.
