A section of U.S. 54 and Missouri 5 in Camden County and a section of Route W in Miller County will get an application of what Missouri Department of Transportation officials are calling "an innovative treatment" designed to provide motorists with more traction in rain, ice or snow, according to a MoDOT news release.

The application, called High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST), will begin on a curve on Missouri 5 just south of Greenview. The work will take place 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. One lane of Missouri 5 from Lake Road 5-64 to Lake Road 5-66 will be closed during the work.

Once the treatment on Missouri 5 is complete, crews will place HFST on a U.S. 54 curve between Camden County routes A and Y. During the work, one lane of U.S. 54 will be closed 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday and again Aug. 7-8.

HFST will also be applied to a curve on Route W in Miller County between Lake Road W-22 and Cotton Road. The HFST will take place 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 8-10. One lane will be closed through the work zone.

Work is weather permitting. Crews will flag motorists through the work area at each location included in the project.
