Eldon man fatally injured in crash

An Eldon man died of injuries sustained when his pickup hit a tree at 1:28 p.m. June 21.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, a 1987 Dodge Dakota pickup, driven westbound by Jeffrey D. Stogsdill, of Eldon, on Eckerle Lane just west of Potts Lane in Cooper County, drove off the left side of the road. According to the patrol report, the driver attempted to jump out of the pickup when the driver's door struck a large tree. The pickup continued west and struck another large tree, and came to rest. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. At 2:18 p.m., he was pronounced dead at the Tipton helicopter pad.

Although the crash occurred in Cooper County, it followed a pursuit by Tipton police north from Moniteau County, as heard on the scanners in the area. The Missouri Highway Patrol was assisted by the Cooper County Sheriff's Office, Moniteau County Sheriff's Office and Tipton Police Department.
