Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will hold its 41st annual meeting/open house on Thursday, March 23.
The meeting and open house will be held at 11 a.m. at the SWCD office, 410 W. Buchanan St., California.
Among the events will be: lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; presentation of the 2016 Cooperator of the Year, Harold, Mary and Byron Haldiman, will be at noon; acknowledgement of retiring supervisors will follow the cooperators award. The retiring supervisors and years of service are: Darrell Hoellering, 16 years; and Harold Haldiman, 12 years. Winning posters from the poster contest will be displayed, and landowners can vote on a People's Choice from fifth and sixth grade.
An election of Area I and Area II supervisors will be held with voting ballots at Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District's office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The nominee in Area I, Linn Township, is Douglas Strein. The nominees in Area II, Walker Township, are Bruce Longan and Jim Langkop. Supervisors manage the administration of district policies, programs, personnel and funds. The district is supported by the one-tenth-of-one percent parks, soils and water sales tax. All Moniteau County landowners with a FSA Farm number are eligible to vote. These terms are for four years and no wage is earned.
Moniteau County has a lot to be proud of and this is just a way for the SWCD to recognize all the hard work done by the landowners and schools. Come by and join the SWCD for lunch and visit with the staff and its Partners in Agriculture — FSA, NRCS, and MDC — for this annual celebration.
