A sign in the door indicates The Wood Place Library will open Monday, May 22, 2017.

The Wood Place Library will open Monday, May 22, for 20 hours-per-week, funded by the Elia Wood Paegelow Foundation.

Hours of operation will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

The free programs and services will be available to all residents of Moniteau County, said Director Connie Walker, who was rehired at the board's meeting May 9.

However, the extensive summer reading programs for infants through teenagers will not be offered this summer. Some form of a storytime may be developed this summer, Walker said.

The foundation particularly hopes that those who have never used the library facility will visit.

The former Moniteau County Library had about 3,900 cardholders.

The foundation board also rehired former Moniteau County Library staff of Assistant Director Nancy Lewis and Circulation Clerk Erin Ogg.

And a fundraising committee was appointed. The foundation hopes to gain enough community support to open the library fulltime by Jan. 1, Walker said.

The board will seek public funding at some point in the future.
