A series of thefts from parked vehicles is prompting Jefferson City police to remind residents to keep their car doors locked and their valuables out of view.

A variety of items stolen from unlocked motor vehicles this week included electronic devices, currency and two firearms. In one case, a vacant vehicle with its keys left in it was stolen but later located within the city.

Multiple thefts occurred throughout the city but also were concentrated in the area of Eastwood and Brookdale streets, as well as on Satinwood Drive. No suspect information is known at this time.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity to Jefferson City police at 634-6400.

"We would rather be called and respond to something which turns out to be nothing suspicious than miss an opportunity to arrest suspects involved in criminal activity," the department noted in a news release.
