Celebrating its 30th year, the Lake Area Community Orchestra traditionally performs a winter concert series and a summer concert series.
This year's winter concert includes Tomaso Albinoni's "Adagio," "A Crazy Mixed-up Christmas Concert" "Adventum," "A Fireside Christmas" (a holiday medley featuring "Winter Wonderland," "Christmas Lullaby" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"), Johann Sebastian Bach's "Arioso," "Auld Lang Syne," "Celebration," "Gershwin Prelude Suite," "Hanukkah, Festival of Lights," "A Holst Christmas," "The Klazon March," Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G Minor and "The Waltzing Cat."
The group of about 50 vary in age from high school students, by audition, to retirees and in backgrounds from stay-at-home moms to doctors.
They travel for Tuesday night rehearsals from as far as Jefferson City and the Pomme de Terre area to the Lake Ozark Christian Church.
Rosalie Wyss moved with her husband to Enon just a few months before the inaugural meeting of the Lake Area Community Orchestra in 1987, a Greater Lake Area Arts Council idea. She is among five original members still with the group.
Inspired by her high school music teacher in Clever, Wyss never gave up on her French horn. She inspires her own students, as a local piano teacher.
Wyss has seen four directors for the ensemble, including two area high school band directors. Fellow French horn player Rose Adams has been the director for the last eight years.
"The orchestra brings so much to so many. It is a lot of work between practices and making music selections, but when we play and the audience enjoys our performance, that makes it all worthwhile," Adams said.
No admission is charged for concerts, but donations are accepted as the orchestra is entirely self-supporting. Contributions are used to purchase new music and instruments and other operating expenses, including the need for a van to haul the percussion equipment to the various concert sites.

A Tuesday performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Eldon.
