“A Christmas Carol” in radio format will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Finke Theatre in California. Pictured in the cast and crew are Nancy Lewis, sound effects; Pam Green, director; Jeff Shackleford; Phil Lewis, music director; Dave Jungmeyer; Preston McMillian; Christina McMillian; Ronnie Korte; Dennis Donley; and choir members Joyce Rohrbach, Cheryl Knipp and Sara Hill.

For one night only, audience members at the Finke Theatre in California will be whisked back to the bygone days of storytelling, when radio shows inspired the imagination.

Charles Dickens' familiar characters of Scrooge and Tiny Tim will come to life through the narration and voice portrayals of California's own actors.

The Finke Theatre Players, directed by Pam Green, will tell the "Christmas Carol" story in a radio show-style performance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Finke Theatre.

The seven actors will read 27 parts; and local musicians will provide vivid sound effects, mood-setting keyboards and choir music.

"You can see them on stage, but if you close your eyes you can visualize it and have the full effect of the story," Green said.

Following a day of open houses and a lighted parade during Christmas California Style, the show may be a nice way to close a kick-off to the holiday season.

Because nearly everyone knows the beloved story, Green said, it should be well received.

She expects a good turnout from the community to support their local actors, who have worked hard to bring this show to life.

"It's one of the best Christmas stories there is. This starts out the season right," Green said.

Adult admission is $10. Guests are encouraged to call 573-691-9939 to reserve a seat.
