California Democrat Editorial

The Neighbors pages have been a staple inside the California Democrat print edition for generations.

The tones, topics and towns have changed over the years - nothing ever remains the same.

What has been constant, however, has been individuals willing to take the time to gather information from their neighbors to keep people informed about what's happening in their community.

The newspaper is mailed to many people, who no longer live in the area, but who like to follow along with life happening here in Moniteau County.

Without the correspondents' dedication to collecting and sending in their neighborhood notes, readers would miss out on a lot of every-day details.

One of the benefits of a weekly, hometown newspaper is sharing those stories.

The newspaper wants to say "thank you" to our correspondents.

Linda Reichel sends in the McGirk-Centertown news. We know people enjoy seeing their name in print and she manages to squeeze in a lot of names each week.

Rosalie Wyss not only provides Enon news, she includes updates from several churches.

Bev Meyer contributes for High Point. Not only does she keep up with both the community and the school, she is full of Moniteau County history, especially relating to the fair.

These three ladies have been submitting to the Democrat for at least a decade!

Nancy Kixmiller, who started as a correspondent in 2012, submits the Prairie Home news and she often goes above and beyond to provide weekly pictures to help tell the story.

Peter Schlup, Jamestown, and Jennifer Hays, Latham, are our newest correspondents.

A well-studied historian of the area, Schlup should serve Jamestown well. And being the school administrator, Hays is sure to be at the center of activities in Latham.

These ladies and fellow are doing a service to their communities.

The Democrat encourages those communities to show their appreciation and to keep submitting the local happenings to them.

And, if someone lives in a local community that would like to start submitting to Neighbors, please contact us at [email protected].

To read the Neighbors columns featuring news from area communities, pick up a copy of the California Democrat newspaper each Wednesday.
