PTO golf tourney raises more funds to support students, teachers

From its annual golf tournament Sept. 9, the California Elementary School PTO raised around $3,400, which is greater than the $2,900 the event raised last year.

The money raised goes to helping schools and children buy school supplies. Heather Borghardt said that the event provides the funds for other events the PTO does to help the children, as well.

"We donate a lot to school supplies for the kids at the beginning of the year. When we do our big back-to-school fair, a lot of the school supplies are paid for by the PTO," Borghardt said.

The money also goes to paying for helping teachers get food during parent-teacher conferences.

This year, 20 teams-of-three signed up for the event, which is slightly less than the 21 teams that signed up last year. There were 37 hole sponsors, as well, this year, which was an increase from last year.

Prizes were given out to the those who finished in first, second and third place. There were also awards given out to the golfer with the farthest stroke. Borghardt said this year's event was a success.

"I would consider it a success. It is always great to see people coming together and helping our kids out."
