California man charged after traffic stop

A California man taken into custody this week following a traffic stop in Moniteau County faces charges for drugs and weapons.

Aurelio Orozco-Lemus, 22, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and heroin, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Deputies stopped Orozco-Lemus on Wednesday on U.S. 50, just west of California, for an equipment violation, according to Moniteau County Sheriff's Department reports.

Orozco-Lemus was nervous and was visibly shaking as deputies talked with him. They were given permission to search the vehicle; and as Orozco-Lemus stepped out, deputies seized a handgun from the waistband of his pants. The pistol was found to have been stolen out of Kansas City.

A search of the rest of the vehicle found meth and heroin.
