California man in custody after chase in Moniteau County

A California man was arrested Sunday following a chase with authorities in Moniteau County.

Steven Martin, 64, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest, according to Moniteau County Sheriff's Department reports.

A deputy stopped Martin east of Tipton on U.S. 50 for an equipment violation. The deputy found that Martin was on federal probation for distribution of drugs.

Martin denied a request to search his vehicle and drove away, going east on U.S. 50.

The deputy caught up with Martin and got him to stop near Route E, where he was taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle found methamphetamine, and it appeared Martin had attempted to destroy them.
