Chamber continues community traditions

The California Area Chamber of Commerce has 124 members registered for the new year. Renewals were due April 15.

At its regular board meeting, the chamber discussed a successful Easter egg hunt with more than 4,000 filled eggs collected by youngsters March 24 at Proctor Park. Chamber volunteers were assisted by California High School band members earning community service credit.

The scholarship committee reported a surprising number of talented applicants this year. Of a class of 94, nearly 40 applied. The committee decided to award 12 $500 scholarships this year.

The annual Chamber golf tournament will be June 13 at the California Country Club. The start time is an hour earlier than previous years. The committee is seeking donations of door prizes and hole sponsorship, as well as teams.

Approved gift certificates be donated to the California Elementary School PTO Disney-style trivia night April 21.

Continued the tradition of sponsoring a California Parks and Recreation ball team.

Renewed its membership in the Moniteau County Regional Economic Development council.
