Park and Rec has new website

California's Park and Recreation will be using a new online system for people to visit.

The new system has a list of programs available for sign ups, as well as where facilities for leagues and programs like little league and swimming lessons are located and a calendar with the schedules for the programs.

Leslie Scheidt, the recreational supervisor for California, said the biggest reason they switched to a new site was for online registration.

"We can now eliminate all the wasted paper and ink that we used when printing out forms for every single child to take home," Scheidt said. "Considering the number of students in all the area schools versus the number of participants we actually have in our programs, that was a substantial waste."

Scheidt said even though the registration is online, parents may still pay the fee by bringing cash or check to City Hall with a copy of the invoice that they received when they registered, so Scheidt knows the account to apply it to in the system.

People soon also will have the option to use debit or credit cards.

She said the feedback has been positive, as people use the new system.

"We have just started with summer swim lessons, so it'll be something that everyone will have to adapt to, since we have been doing it the old way for so long," Scheidt said. "But I think, once everyone gets a handle on the system, all our program registrations will go much smoother."
