The DeepWater Band plays regularly at the Columbia VFW and visits the LoMo Club for its second performance April 20 to benefit the March of Dimes.

Country fans, pull on your dancing galoshes, because The DeepWater Band plans to pack the house for a "honky tonk hootenanny" to benefit the March of Dimes' effort to improve the health of mothers and babies.

The six-piece ensemble brings its nostalgic blend of classic country music - complete with angelic lap steel, swinging keys and lovely harmonies featuring male and female lead vocalists - from the band's Columbia stomping grounds to Lohman at 8 p.m. April 20 in the LoMo Club.

Dan Hatfield said the Mid-Missouri band plays a variety of classic country music like Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Ray Price and more. One of his favorite selections among the group's set is a rendition of Vince Gill's "Look At Us."

"One thing about our band - that you won't see in very many country bands - is a lot of bands have plenty of guitars," he said. "We only have one lead guitar, but we have pedal steel and keyboard. Plus, we have great three-part harmony."

The band formed when four members met at Hazel Kinder's Lighthouse Theater, Fulton. Of the original members, only Hatfield and bassist David Boggs remain in the group. Boggs and Hatfield still play together with The DeepWater Band the first Saturday of every month at the the Columbia VFW.

The band has played a show at the LoMo Club once before, and looks forward to returning to promote a good cause.

"I always love that," Hatfield said. "I think it's a worthy cause. My understanding is that when they have benefits at (the LoMo Club), it's usually packed; so I expect to have a large audience."
