Fire officials responded Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 to a structure fire on East 8th Street in Fulton. The house, pictured above on Monday, was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.

The front yard of a house on Fulton's east side was littered with debris after a fire destroyed much of the interior over the weekend.

Fulton firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. Saturday to the house fire at 827 E. 8th St. after neighbors reported smoke.

A neighbor said Monday she was afraid the fire was going to jump the small side yard and set her own house on fire. She said she didn't know if anyone had been living in the house recently.

When firefighters arrived, they saw continued smoke and encountered flames after entering.

Fire crews completed a search and were unable to find anyone in the home. After locating a room and content which were burning, they brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes.

The structure was vacant at the time of fire, according to a news release. Three engines and about 15 personnel responded.

The fire department and the State Fire Marshal's office investigated the blaze. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined and remains under investigation.

An estimate of the amount of damages also was not immediately available.
