Flowers are still one of the most popular gifts for Valentines day.

With Valentine's Day approaching, some people may be unsure what to get their special someone.

This year, flowers and chocolate-covered strawberries are popular gift ideas, just as they have been in the past.

At the Flower Shop For All Occasions, they have a few items that have been consistently popular over the years. They are the usual order of a dozen roses and chocolate-covered strawberries.

The Flower Shop For All Occasions gets their chocolate covered strawberries from the Candy Factory in Columbia. AnJanette Volkart, one of the owners of The Flower Shop, said when they started selling the strawberries, a large group of people from California who would travel to Columbia to go to the Candy Factory came to the Flower Shop instead.

"When we figured that out, we contacted the Candy Factory; so now we bring them here, that's one of our big, big things," Volkart said.

When people buy for their children, Volkart said that they often buy candy and stuffed animals, as well.

"When they buy for their kids, they get a little bit of everything," Volkart said.

Originals also has some popular gifts, such as red roses, willow tree statues, tie-dyed roses, signs that say things such as "You and me" and "All you need is love," house plants, and chocolate-covered strawberries, as well.

Kim Rimel, the owner of Originals, said while flowers are popular, some orders will ask for plants, instead.

Rimel said roses and chocolate strawberries continue to be the popular trend.

"Valentine's is the time to send fresh flowers, red roses - that's what Valentine's Day is all about," Rimel said.
