Jefferson City man accused of beating up his mother

A Jefferson City man has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his mother.

Police department reports show Matthew Johnson, 35, was taken into custody Tuesday for first-degree domestic assault.

Officers were called Monday to investigate a domestic assault that occurred Sunday in the 2200 block of Weathered Rock Road in Jefferson City.

The victim, who is 74, said she had been told her son, Johnson, was on his way to her residence to harm her, and when he got there she attempted to flee but instead was knocked to the ground by Johnson and drug across the concrete into her home where she was "severely beaten and suffered fractured bones, multiple abrasions and contusions as well as a lacerated arm."

The victim got help after Johnson left her home Monday. She told police she couldn't get help before then because she feared for her life.
