Mid-Missouri Mission Team (3MT) visited California June 16-23 to help paint houses and provide lawn care to those who need it.

The Rev. Kevin Kohler, the president and founder of 3MT, said that after coming to Tipton for a few years that they decided to try California.

Kohler said that 3MT works with about 35 churches in their program and that the churches' communities decide which areas the volunteers should go to.

"Generally speaking, it is senior citizens," Kohler said. "We'll help people that can't afford to do it themselves or they are unable to do it themselves."

Volunteers come from all around the state. Kohler said that this year, they have a group from Kansas and that in the past they have had groups from other states help, as well.

This is the 14th year for the program.

Kohler said that during their trips, 3MT is trying to provide help with service and trying to connect with the people they are helping and that could help the home owner in a spiritual way.

"The 3MT motto is 'it is not about the paint,'" Kohler said. "We are trying to connect on a personal level with them and develop a relationship with them.

"We provide them service, but we also share Christ while we are doing it and sometimes it helps them with their homes; but maybe it helps them with spiritual uplifting of some type.

"It helps the home owner, but it also helps the people providing the service."
