Mid Missouri Archery and Shooting provides fire arm safety classes

Mid Missouri Archery and Shooting offer two types of safety classes. They offer conceal carry certification classes which, after passing the class, allow people to go to their county's sheriff department and get a permit.

There are also more advanced classes being offered that are for training in self defense and firearms. The lessons can be done with a group or there can be private lessons. Steve Kreter a Law Enforcement Tactical Weapons Instructor at Mid Missouri Archery and Shooting said that if someone is just starting out, they should try a private lesson or two.

"So they understand the basics of firearm safety before coming to take their actual certification class," Kreter said. "Once they have their basic conceal carry weapon certification the advanced classes are to better progress and to improve your training and improve your skills and prove your comfort with fire arms and your safety and caring."

Kreter said he felt there is a need for the more advanced classes.

"As a law enforcement firearms instructor, we qualify twice a year and civilians are only required to do it one time and then they never do it again," Kreter said. "It is good for them to practice and have their training on record with a certified coach to make sure they are still safe and that they can still remember what they went through in the class and even do some more advanced techniques they wouldn't get to do otherwise."

Kreter said the conceal carry class goes over firearm safety, nomenclature, laws and regulations.

He said the advanced class is helpful by giving more knowledge about firearms.

"Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you have on a subject, the more power you have and the more in-depth you go into your training, the safer you are and the safer everyone around you is."

Private lessons are $25 and the basic conceal carry certification cost $100. The class includes use of Mid Missouri Archery and Shooting's firearms and a provided lunch. To graduate, a person must be in a class for a minimum of eight hours.

Kreter said he hopes people take away confidence and safety from the classes.

"Confidence that they can use the weapon, if the need ever arises, and safety to make sure that (they) and everyone around them (are) safe," Kreter said.
